Benefits

Because employees are one of the most valuable resources of Danville Public Schools (DPS), we are pleased to offer a variety of benefits to meet the diverse needs of our employees. Below are links to the Benefits Guides for both full- and part-time employees that provide an overview of DPS's benefit offerings.

Open Enrollment

Open enrollment for the 2019 - 2020 school year is August 1 - August 16, 2019.  Any changes to policies made during this period will be effective on October 1, 2019; however, deductions will begin in August.

Open enrollment is your only opportunity each year to make changes to your elections, unless you or your family members experience an eligible "qualifying event."  Changes can be made to a policy during any other time of the plan year ONLY if any of the following occur:

  • Marriage
  • Divorce
  • Birth/Adoption of a child
  • Death of a dependent
  • Change in a Spouse’s coverage (even their open enrollment period)
  • Change of dependent’s eligibility

Please note these changes MUST BE MADE WITHIN 30 DAYS of the event. If you go past these 30 days you will need to wait until the next open enrollment period.

Enrolling in Benefits

Eligible new employees are strongly encouraged to enroll in health, dental, and other benefits by the 15th of each month, if possible, but within 30 calendar days of their date of hire.  Once the 30 days has elapsed, enrollment is permitted during the annual open enrollment period or within 30 days of a qualifying event.  If you submit your enrollment forms after the payroll deadline for the upcoming pay period, multiple deductions of premiums may occur from one or more future paychecks.  (See Open Enrollment)

Employees enrolling in health, dental, and other benefit programs must work at least eleven (11) business days during a month for coverage to be effective on the first day of the following month. Coverage for life and AD&D insurance is effective on the first day of work.  New enrollees will receive identification cards in the mail 2-3 weeks following enrollment.
